ThinkHost is green and states it has gone even beyond green according to them. It is wind and solar powered. They say their uptime is 100%. They support on of the top web technologies; they have a commitment to social change and they offer good value, support and features. ThinkHost has been supplying webhosting since 1999. For $7.95 you get: unlimited server space, bandwidth, MySQL databases, domains and sites, POP3/IMAP email accounts, autoresponders, email forwarders, and free dedicated IP with SSL support and free BSD Unix/Linux Apache server and sixteen other features. There are nine bonus features beyond the other features mentioned. There are five support, reliability, and security features.
ThinkHost says it is carbon-neural: the majority of their staff telecommutes to work; they work with notebook computers, use a small amount of paper, and they’ve lowered their electricity needs. ThinkHost plants a tree for each new customer. They aren’t in debt, don’t have any shareholders or investors; they make decisions without any such influence. Many of the employees they say are also involved in social outreach programs.
There are nineteen reviews of ThinkHost and they give them two and one half stars out of five stars. Uptime and reliability, technical support and customer received two stars and the overall rating got two and a half stars. Some of the problems cited by customer reviewers are; problems getting refund, disappointment with bad service and had wanted to specifically go with a green company, bad administration panel, servers errors, mediocre service, and the problems keep coming with comments like poor, horrible and so forth.
One of the obvious problems I noticed is that thee isn’t a customer support or customer sales number on the site. There isn’t any live chat. It seems it would be hard to reach them when you had a problem, though they have ticket support. This is something that should make a prospective client stop and think before getting an account. It may be the idea of being green that makes people go ahead, but you have to be able to contact your webhosting service when trouble arises or you just don’t understand something
Their knowledgebase seems as good as some, but without as many ways to help yourself when you need to know something; they have faqs, guides and a lot of knowledgebase categories, but not videos, tutorials, forum etcetera. All in all considering the reviews, lack of phone support service, and less than top notch help services, ThinkHost doesn’t have some of the offerings that other webhosting company’s supply.
ThinkHost doesn’t offer a choice of plans like many other webhosting companies. They don’t tell you much about what they offer. They haven’t won any awards and aren’t recommended by any leading webhosting authorities. They are members of the Better Business Bureau and Coop America. You may want to check into what Coop America is all about. Overall their lack of communication availability and lack of good recognition is something that gives them a less than impressive appearance.
